Inquiry regarding auto calibration program for PGA308

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: PGA308, PGA308EVM, MULTI-CAL-SYSTEM, PGA309

Hello, all

Now we have one inquiry regarding auto calibration program for PGA308 from our customer who is about to start their mass production model on which PGA308 is used.

Their preparation for mass production is to use windows 7 or 8 PC, USB DAQ Platform, PGA308EVM based their custom board and their selected sensor module.

On their trial stage, they used PGA308EVM Software to have fine tuning and writing into OTP memory, however on mass production stage they are looking for other software which has auto calibration functionality and auto writing into OTP memory.

Please let us clarify whether you have such a windows based programming or not.

If you have, please let us know how to get this.

If you don't have, please let us know how to get your sample programming or design support tool which helps them to design such software above by themselves.

We thank you in advance for your information.

Best regards,

  • The PGA308 Multi-cal system is capable of simultaneous calibration of up to 64 PGA308s at a time. The link to the start kit is here: http://www.ti.com/tool/multi-cal-system

The software source code can also be downloaded from that page. It was written in LabView.

  • Hello, thank you for your prompt reply.

As I checked the detailed information regarding PGA308 Multi-cal system, I could not find this supported Windows OS version.

Please let me clarify whether this system could be used Windows 8 or at least 7.

We thank you once again for your information.

    Best regards,

  • Hello Atsushi-san,

The Multi-Cal software is fully compatible and tested with Windows 7 and Windows XP. We have not tested the software on Windows 8.

  • Ian-san,

Thank you for your prompt reply on above inquiry regarding PGA308 Multi-cal system .

We have some additional inquiries from the customer. Please refer to the item below, and feedback us with your comment.

    1) Inquiry regarding Multi-Cal software

Please let us clarify whether we could set linear characteristic in case of the output voltage (1V) on atmospheric pressure (1013.25hPa) and the output voltage (5V) on targeted pressure when using Multi-Cal software.

Also, please let us clarify about the range we could set on Multi-Cal software.

    2) Inquiry regarding Multi-Cal hardware

In case calibrating 64 PGA308 modules at same time, we assume that one Multi-Cal-Master Board, two Multi-Cal-Slave Boards and 8 Multi-Cal-Interface Boards, when referring Figure 3 on Multi-Cal-Interface PCA Evaluation Module user guide (SBOU093).

Please let us know if any additional boards are required on this case.

Also, please let us clarify whether the cable between Multi-Cal-Slave Boards and Multi-Cal-Interface Boards is included in "Multi-Cal-System Cables".

We thank you once again for your information.

    Best regards,

  • Hello Atsushi-san,

    1) Setting the linear output range of 1V - 5V over their desired pressure range is possible. However, I recommend using a power supply VS of 5.5V to avoid any output voltage swing limitations.

    2) The understanding of the 64-channel system is correct. Simply follow the connection diagram given in Figure 3 of SBOU093.

    Best regards,

    Ian Williams

  • Ian-san,

Thank you as usual your continuous support towards the inquiries from our customer.

With regard to your comments above, I have some additional inquiries from them.

    1) We assume that the GUI for Multi-Cal software could be installed on following setup.exe file; sboc401a\Multi_CAL_PGA309 Installer\Volume

When trying to use this GUI, I could not find out actual linear output range setting Tab on this tool.

Please let us clarify which Tab could be used for setting within 1-5V range (1V=atmospheric pressure and 5V=maximum operating pressure applied)  linear characteristics.

    2) When referring your website below, we could purchase Multi-Cal-System Basic Starter Kit, which includes 1 Multi-Cal Master and 1 Multi-Cal-Interface board;

    http://www.ti.com/tool/multi-cal-system

    Also, when referring your website below, we could purchase Multi-Cal-Slave Circuit Board, which includes 1 Multi-Cal Slave board;

    http://www.ti.com/tool/multi-cal-slavekit

When making hardware configuration to calibrate 64 PGA308 modules at same time, we assume that we need to purchase one Multi-Cal-System Basic Starter Kit, two Multi-Cal-Slave Circuit Boards and 7 Multi-Cal-Interface boards.

However, we could not find the page to order  on your website.

Please let us clarify how to order Multi-Cal-Interface boards only.

We thank you once again for your information.

    Best regards,

  • Hello Atsushi-san,

    1) You should be using software SBOC390 for the Multi-Cal PGA308 system. If this software is running on Windows 7, it must be run as an administrator for proper functionality.

To specify the output span, click the "Configure Cal" tab, then click the "Create/Edit Pre-Cal Configuration File" button. This window is where you set all sensor module parameters. I recommend you start by loading one of the default settings and making modifications, rather than starting from an empty configuration.

    2) I apologize, because I gave you some wrong information before. Each interface board also requires a slave board, so for 64 channels you would need 1 Multi-Cal-Master, 7 Multi-Cal-Slaves, and 8 Multi-Cal-Interface boards. The example in the Multi-Cal-Interface board User's Guide, Figure 3, only shows a 24-channel example.

It doesn't look like we currently don't offer a way to buy the extra interface cables. This is definitely a problem on our end, so let me investigate and see what we can do to get you the hardware you need.

    Best regards,

    Ian Williams

  • Ian-san,

Thank you for your providing detailed information regarding Multi-Cal PGA308 system.

With regard to your additional information above, please let me confirm whether my understanding is correct.

    1) I re-installed SBOC390 in my PC, then tried to find the "Configure Cal" tab. However, it seems that the program itself is slightly different from your captured one.

Please let me clarify whether I could have multi calibration with the command "Create Pre Cal Config File" on this tool. (without connecting to boards, it seems that any additional windows are opened despite clicking this icon.)

    2) When referring your comment above, I could understand that we need to purchase following items from your website for the calibration on 64 PGA308s.

    - 1 Multi-Cal-System Basic Starter Kit

    - 7 Multi-Cal-Slave Circuit Boards

Please feedback us with your comment how we could purchase 7 Multi-Cal-Slave boards and extra interface cables as soon as you could have confirmation.

We thank you once again for your information.

    Best regards,
