TLC339 drain pull-up

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TLC339

This question is being posted for an FAE:

For TLC339, I have a question:

If the  VDD is powered by 5V and we have  got a pullup resistor on the comparator output pin that is pulled up to 3.3V. Is that OK?  Does the pullup have to be tied to 5V? The data sheet just show a simple N channel MOSFET w/open drain for the output stage but does the drain pin actually tie back to some internal circuitry?

Let me know.

  • Yes, the TLC339 output MOSFET drain pull-up may be connected to a voltage level equal to or less than the device supply voltage. Therefore, if the device is powered by a 5V supply, the output pull-up can be safely connected to a 3.3V supply.
