OPA2277 field failures

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: OPA2277

Looking for input/ideas about OPA2277UA devices failing in the field. Devices have been running for 1-2 years without incident and now we are seeing occasional failures (low percentage). In some devices, both amps have stopped functioning - in others it is just one amp. Ideally we would like to have the failed devices analyzed to try and sort out the root of the problem. We are happy to provide any further information that is helpful.

Thanks,

Mike

  • Mike,

In order to assist you, we need some additional information.  What’s the exact failure rate?  Could you please provide us with the description of actual customer application? Are input/output pins of OPA2277 internal within their overall system or they might be exposed to external events like supply glitches or possible ESD/EOS events?  If the latter is the case, we would need to see a detailed schematic including voltage supply levels, input signals, loading condition, supply sequencing, etc.

Also, please provide us information regarding the environment (ambient temperature, expected junction temperature, moisture level, etc.) describing actual field in which OPA2277 operates.

  • Thank you for the prompt reply. I do have documentation that addresses some of your questions above, but I have been asked to not post the schematics for this product on a public forum. Is there a way that I can send this information directly? I also have boards on hand with the failed devices that I would be happy to send to you for analysis.

    Thank you,

    Mike

  • Mike,

Could you answer general questions I asked without posting schematic?  What’s the exact failure rate?  Are input/output pins of OPA2277 internal within their overall system or they might be exposed to external events like supply glitches or possible ESD/EOS events?  What is the temperature in which the part operates?

Please send the customer schematic and other information you may have to:  lis_marek@ti.com

I am a member of the application support and not quality assurance team.  Based on the initial evaluation of OPA2277 potential issues/causes, we will make the decision how to proceed including possible return of the units for failure analysis.
