OPA2335 Bypass Capacitors

Hello,

Per product datasheet, in application information: Good layout practice mandates use of a
0.1μF capacitor placed closely across the supply pins. Would the 0.1 uF value
be a minimum or maximum value?

  • I would not say there is a minimum or maximum value; rather, what frequency ranges in the application are expected to interfere with the circuit.

    There is an art and science to determine bypass capacitors (what the ESR is, track inductance, interfering frequency ranges all come into play), but many times a 10uF, 1uF, 0.1uF are shown. 

    Hand waving says 0.1uF will help attenuate low MHz ripple on a supply.

    Adding to what Ken said, since the main function of the supply bypass capacitor is to respond to sudden change in load current without allowing significant transients on the supply pin, TYPICALLY the larger the bypas cap the better (within some reason , ~10uF).
