Reg: XTR115; HART compatible

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: XTR115, XTR111, XTR300

Hello Champs,

I have a customer - planning to use XTR115 in our HART compatible devices. XTR115 is not compatible to HART specification because of its current mirror design.

Can i Know if he can use it as output stage in our HART compatible products?

Thanks

Prashanth

  • Prashanth,

The XTR115 does not have the chopping current mirror that is used in the XTR300 and XTR111; therefore, it should be fine to work in HART compatible applications.  The attached example shows how to connect the XTR115 to a very specific modem, A5191HRT.  This is an untested design but should help the customer in getting started.

    HART Modem Connection to XTR115.pdf
  • Matt,

I have a working design using the XTR300 Output Driver ( 4-20ma application) and I want to add HART capability to it. I have found possible HART modem chips - ON A5191HRT or the new Maxim DS8500 chip. The XTR300 data sheet suggests that HART connections could be made to this chip. In your previous post (11-17-09), I got the impression that HART might not work with this chip because of its "chopping current mirror".  I haven't tried anything with our exiting design yet -  am I going to have problems with the XTR300? Do know of any design notes or other design information about adding HART to the XTR300?

  • Hi Matt.

I have reviewed pdf you attached. Can you claryfiy A5191HRT grounding? Would I need A5191HRT power and data isolation??

    Thanks.

  • Hi Pacho,

The answers to your questions involve several factors.  Could you please send us a preliminary schematic and we'll comment on how you should connect things.

    Thanks!
