INA169 measure 1mA~8A

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TIPD129, TIPD156, TIPD135

Dear Sir

We would like to measure 1mA~8A current and the Full voltage range is up to 2V (ADC input)

Have any solution could to this SPEC?

Thanks

  • Kai,

Using a current shunt monitor will be good for measuring large currents like 8A.  When currents get smaller, like under 100mA, the errors can be significant.  This is because large resistors are needed to measure small currents, and small resistors are used to measure large currents, and you can only have one resistor per current shunt monitor so you will have to sacrifice low current performance to accommodate large current performance.

Depending on what kind of error your solution can tolerate, I would suggest looking into a solution like TIPD156 and perhaps modifying it to accept 8A instead of 2.5A.  Also, a PGA solution like TIPD135 could possibly be modified to suit your specifications as well.  TIPD129 offers 0-1A with good accuracy, perhaps modifying it would work too.

    Best regards,
