LM393ADR & LM339ADR Input Capacitance Values

Hi,

My customer is using the LM393ADR and the LM339ADR.

They would like to know the Min, Max, & Nominal Input Capacitance for the IN+ connections on the device.

Is this information we could provide?

Thanks,

EJ

  • EJ,

I will look for typical data. If not found, I will test it in lab this week.
It should be about 3pF. I certainly can't provide min and max.
Why does the input capacitance matte so much for the application?
  • Ronald,

We have a design where a relaxation oscillators output (T_Wave1) is tied to the input of 9 of these devices.

The 220pf cap in this circuit determines the frequency of this oscillator.  However this node is experiencing an additional ~100pF of capacitive loading; presumably from these 9 devices + the traces.

Our PCBA manufacturer tests the frequency of this circuit and will from time to time experience very poor yields due to the variance in capacitance of this circuit.

Since this ~100pF is a significant source of capacitance to this circuit i need to know what type of variance we can expect so we can appropriatly set our test fixture acceptance criteria for measuring the frequency of this circuit.

  • Justin,

Are you very certain that capacitance variance is the causation?
Variation in propagation delay and VOL can also affect the oscillating frequency.
  • We feel pretty confident that this is the case. I could go further into detail over the phone if you would like.
