INA226 Question

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: INA226

Hi.

I am trying to use an INA226 to sense current up to 60 amps. I have programmed the configuration data as per the datasheet but I am not getting any readings above 32.767 amps. The shunt voltage is always at it's maximum 0x7FFF. I am using four 0.01 ohm resistors in parallel (0.0025 ohm) as a shunt.

The configuration values I am using are:

CAL: 0x0400

Current LSB: 0.002

I am sure of the configuration values I obtained as the sensor works perfectly below 32.767 amps.

Am I just missing something with regards to the configuration, do I need a different shunt resistor or can this sensor not read about 32.767 amps?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

  • Hi Adam,

The maximum input sense voltage limit for INA226 is 81.92 mV and so you are at the maximum input with current = 32.768 A (81.92 mV / 0.0025 ohm). For 60 A full scale you will have to reduce the shunt resistor to half. Please let me know if you have questions.
