INA114 - Input protection circuit

Can the device inputs b exposed to +/-150V for 1.5ms without being permanently damaged?

  • Hello Amir,

The device is rated for +/-40V. It is neither designed nor characterized for any voltages greater than that, regardless of the time applied. I suggest protecting the device with external voltage clamps.
  • Hi Pete,

Thanks for your reply, do you have suggestion for the input protection scheme?

  • Hello Amir,

There are a variety of external components that can be used to protect the device. There is an excellent series of videos on electrical overstress (EOS) that discuss these components and their associated considerations. Here is the link:

These videos, combined with your expert knowledge of the application/system, should lead you to a good solution.

One recommendation that I do have is to consider 'over designing' the input protection scheme. For example, in addition to the external voltage clamps (and if you have the PCB space), you may want to include footprints for resistors/ferrite beads in series with the inputs (and perhaps footprints for capacitors to ground). This gives you the option of adding the components at a later date if necessary.
