GHz Sampling

I have an application where I'm trying measure a pulse shape of a 6 ns pulse from a fast photodiode. Mostly I'm just looking for a PN and any technical issues I need to be aware of. I've haven't worked with signals this short or this spaced out before so any help or advice is appreciated.

  • Hello John,
Do you need a transimpedance amplifier to directly interface with the diode or is there already a buffer in place?
How much resolution of the pulse shape do you require? If you need ten samples per pulse that is down to 0.6ns resolution which means about 2GHz of signal bandwidth.
