What is the LM358 amplifier used for?

Its not really possible to tell without more information. Do you have a schematic perhaps?
Possibly the LM358 is being used to amplify the signal from the sensor?

You have a rational question. Unfortunately, I cannot provide the schematic. I compared the voltage range among the buzzer, sensor, and amplifier. I have not done the PCB layout. I could be wrong, but I feel like the LM358 is really not necessary for the board. The LM358 just amplifies the signal to 25V to 100V from a 5V source. If the buzzer needs a voltage greater than 5V, it does not work without the LM358. The sensor requires a voltage between plus/minus 1.5 and 4.5 V

The LM358 cant amplify a signal above 28V. And that assumes a VCC = 32V. Are you saying that you think the amplifier is supplying a higher voltage to drive the buzzer?

Hello Joseph,

Are you trying to drive 100V into the buzzer? Can you tell me how much current is needed? LM358 may not be able to supply the load.

Its hard to tell you what LM358 is being used for without more context. Anything would be a pure guess at this point.
It sounds like you have the schematic. Can you ask the design engineer what the purpose of the LM358 is?

The technician was able to make the board work without the amplifier. The engineer has no comment. I somehow do not understand how the board works without the amplifier. My guess is the engineer puts the amplifier unnecessarily.
