Definition for turn-on time on OPA379

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: OPA379

Hi, folks

Could you tell me a measurement condition for turn-on time?

i.e. input voltage, dv/dt of input, how to judge as turn-on.

  • Keiichi,

OPA379 turn-on time of 1ms refers to the power-up time - how long will it take for the op amp to bias up properly AFTER minimum specified supply voltage is applied.  Since it takes some time for the internal circuitry to come up to a steady-state, there is some minimum required time delay, after supply is turned-on, before the op amp is ready to process incoming input signal.

One way of measuring the turn-on time is to configure the op amp in a follower (buffer) configuration and, with the non-inverting input grounded, turn-on dual +/-2.5V supplies (this is the same as turning-on 5V single supply with Vin=2.5V).   Measuring the time that it takes for the output voltage to settle around 0V (mid-supply), AFTER power supplies are turned-on, will yield the turn-on time.

  • Marek,

Thank you for your reply. I understood.
