DRV421 for AC current sensing

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV421, AMC1100

Hi,

I'm trying to find a good solution to monitor 3Arms current for 120Vac line.

Looking for digital output measurement.

It seems most AC current measurements require magnetic coupling so that it's not directly connected to AC line. Then the DRV421 or similar device will measure and that could feed out to an ADC for digital I2C output back to MCU/CPU.

Is there any other simpler approaches where it may be possible to use a direct Rsense coupled to a current sense monitor and be able to handle 120Vac on the line? Seems most of these are only rated to 36V max DC and wondering if negative potential, even though common mode is small could damage those devices?

Thanks for any insight.

Regards,

Jeramie

  • Hi Jeramie,

We have isolation amplifiers AMC1100 and magnetic devices like the DRV421 you mentioned.  Please see the thread link below.  Please let us know which option you would like to pursue and we will get the correct person to assist.
