Single negative Supply OPA365?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: OPA365

Is it possible to run the OPA365 in a single negative supply configuration (i.e. ground pin7 and -5V on pin4)?  I assume this is an OK thing to do.  I'm just worried that running on a single negative supply will result in a performance hit of some kind.

  • Paul,

It is the differential voltage between the rails and not absolute that matter.  You could run the IC from 1000V and 1005V rails and see no difference in its performance.  Having said that, you have to make sure that you do not violate the common-mode input voltage range or output swing relative to your rails.  In other words, based on the OPA365 PDS specs below and with your -5V to ground rails, your common-mode input voltage would be from -5.1V to 0.1V and the output swing from -4.98V to -.02V

  • Thank you for the quick reply.  I can now verify that the OPA365 works beautifully for my application of driving the base of a PNP transistor for a laser diode current sink.

    Cheers,
