LM234 from defunct National Semiconducor

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM124, LM234

Dear TI Specialist and Forum´s members

In remote country (as Brazil) we are at bay to design circuits as components are not on one´s reach

I go to design a current source 1 mA and 2 mA for medical application

TI LM124/234/334 seems to have a perfect choice (cost, stability, one resistor to perform the job, et cetera)

But I found defunct National´s logo "M234" on the market SOIC-8 package

TI datasheet SNVS746E –MARCH 2000–REVISED MAY 2013 tells us LM234 is three-pin and not  SOIC-8

Futhermore "M234" does not match with "LM234"

A single hand from your own can save my day

Thank you, Silvio Penteado

  • Bom Dia, Silvio!

    Tudo bem?

The LM234 is currently only available in the three terminal TO-92 "transistor" package ("Z" package).

"M234" is a package marking - not a full part number.  Small packages have either a special code or a shortened version of the actual part number due to space constraints. On page 18 of the datasheet, the last column "Package Marking", shows what should be actually marked on the package.

The table does not show a "M234".

As far as I can tell, National did not offer the LM234 in a SOIC-8 package. The National LM234 has always been the the three-terminal TO-92 package.

Other manufacturers have made second-sources of the LM234/334 and may have created a SOIC-8 version.

If you have a LM234 in a SOIC-8 package with a National logo, you may want to check with your distributor about it's validity.

    Regards,

  • Dear Paul

Tudo bem? Beleza (I am cool - informal)
Thank you so much for your invaluable and professional response to my question
    Back to baseline
I run after 1mA and 2 mA current source for medical application an this "LM234" was the perfect choice
If you please have in mind any suggestion by your own I thank you once more
Wish you a marvelous weekend, Silvio
