LPV7215 Phase Reversal

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LPV7215

Hi E2E,

I have a customer who'd like to drive the positive input of the LPV7215MG/NOPB comparator at Vcc + 0.5V to 0.6V.  The datasheet states max as Vcc+ 0.3V.  The customer has placed a 10kOhm resistor at the positive input to limit current.

Does my customer have to worry about phase reversal or any other potential issues?

Thanks,

-Sam

  • Hello Samuel,

I am not aware of any reversal problems with the LPV7215 family when slightly exceeding the positive supply. Normally the supply needs to be exceeded by over a volt before errors occur - but by then the ESD diode current is in the 100's of mA.

With a 10K resistor, the current and voltage should be limited to a safe amount. To be sure, an external Shottky diode to the supply can help clamp the voltage to around 300mV above the rail, since the forward voltage of the Schottky is lower than the internal ESD structures.

    Regards,
  • This is a very robust chip! Thanks for the quick and detailed response!
