ISO124U stress test and surge peak test

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ISO124

Hi team,

we got following request about ISO124U :

"..one customer wants to use ISO124U for a high-voltage industrial application and he has some doubts regarding technical specifications.

Looking at the data-sheet, the rated Vrms voltage is 1500 V so no problem at this point.

Looking at the Test Conditions on page 5 you specify 2400 Vac during 1 second but the customer needs to test the behaviour applying 2000 Vac during 60 seconds. Is the expected life-time reduced after the test?

The customer also needs to implement a surge peak test applying 5 kV during 1 microsecond. Is it possible to do so ?, is the expected life-time affected during this test ?.."

Thanks in advance for for kind help/suggestions and BR

Sergio

  • Hi Sergio,

The ISO124 is one of the older isolation amplifiers in our portfolio and only carries a functional isolation rating. I will look in the design archive to see if there was any testing done to determine life time with voltages beyond what is specified in the datasheet.
  • Hi Tom,

    is there a modern replacement?
I use two ISO124 to have a fully differential isolated current probe with high dynamic range. Maybe there where newer types available. I searched a lot but all newer amps I found didn't compare to the ISO124.

I used it with -+15V supply to get a nice SNR, the newer types runiing at lower voltages and SNR isn't that nice.

    With best regards

    Gerhard

  • Hi Gerhard,

We have a modern replacement in the pipeline - it won't be pin to pin compatible with the ISO124, but it will be able to accomodate +/-10V input signals. The new device will carry UL and VDE certifications and the projected SNR is 80dB. If you would like more detail, let me know and I'll contact you off line.
