TLC3702 / upper limit of capacitive load

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TLC3702

Dear support team,

Our customer is studying TLC3702 now.
I got a question regarding TLC3702 from the customer.
So please advise me about it.

Question :
How much is the upper limit of the capacitive load of TLC3702?
I think that the device will be destroyed if capacitance of the load is too large.
So please tell me the upper limit value of the capacitive load from the viewpoint of the output current.

Best regards,
M. Tachibana

  • Hi Tchibana-san,
    TLC3702 output current should be limited to +/-20mA. If you have a capacitive load, you could compute the maximum output current by:
    I_load = C * DeltaV / Delta t
    Assuming a 10V step output across cap load of 100pF with 10-90% rise time 1us, the output current is:
    I_load = ~100pF * (10V * 0.8 / 1us) = 800uA
    So, you don't exceed the limit for this example.

    Using this calculation, you can ensure that you don't exceed +/-20mA to be safe.

    Hooman
