THS6012: Output impedance

Hello all,

I'm trying to determine the output impedance for the THS6012IDWP device 

Ref. datasheet page 5    shows Vo output voltage swing Differential of RL =50 ohms  and Io Output Current RL = 25 ohms      while page 6 shows Output Resis. at open loop TYP 13 ohms.

  • Daniel,

     The "dc open loop" output impedance of the amplifier is 13 ohms. However you are probably more interested in the closed loop output impedance. If you refer to figure 10 of the datasheet on page 9, that gives you the closed loop Zout over frequency. As you can see it is < 1 ohm till 20 MHz.

     Vo output voltage swing Differential of RL =50 ohms  and Io Output Current RL = 25 ohms      : The RL here is the external load resistor. So with an external load of 25 ohms the amplifier outputs(differential with +/-15V supplies) cannot swing more than 23.6V and lower than -23V. This performance is due to  the amplifiers "closed loop output impedance" which is a function of its:

    1. open loop output impedance vs frequency (AND)

    2. its open loop gain vs frequency.
