Hello,

I have a challenge to build a little module (arduino mega or another MCU) to measure the output port of an industrial machine that sends a pulse that can reach 12V and feel mA.

But also, in order to do some calculation and calibration, I need to know the pulse current and width (miliseconds) of each pulse.

Could someone suggest me an unit that would help me with that. I have some INA219 here but I'm not sure if would be possible to use it for this.

Hi Cristiano,

You can certainly measure current using our current shunt monitors, but not the pulse width.

You will need to find another deice for this task. Maybe an ADC that is controlled by your uC or a fast comparator.

Cristiano,

How accurately do you need to measure the pulse width, and to what is the INA219 attached? An FPGA or a fast uC? If you set the INA219 to sample fast and then count the number of samples that the current is reported high, you could get a rough number for the width of the pulse.

Hi Jason,

we are looking for the best accuracy possible with the resources we have...;)

The machine we need to measure throws its pulse in a range of 100ms up to 400ms. That pulse will be triggered by human hand in a nice interval.

we have some ARM cortex-M3 (CC1310) that I think can reach 40MHz and some other MCU that can reach 80MHz. The idea is to setup the circuit in the machine, save the measured data in an eeprom and then send the results to a gateway.
