INA226: Questions for Vbus and updating time

Guru 16770 points
Part Number: INA226

Hi

Could you please tell me the answer of the followings?

1.
This device can accept to sense bus voltage from 0V to 36V.
Vbus input pin has 830kohm impedance, so if inserting the resister in series it would act as voltage divider.
In the above usecase, is it possible to measure over 36V bus voltage?
Or could it result in any negative effect?

2.
Is there any restriction for the combination of conversion time and number of averages?
I'm assuming the longest updating time like following.
VBUSCT, VSHCT -> 8.244ms
AVG -> 1024

BestRegards

  • Hi na na78,

    1. If you are interested in measuring voltages greater than 36V using the INA226, please refer to the following TI Design. Page 6 and 7 explains the voltage divider in the Vbus pins when adding external resistors.

    2. No restrictions but there are trade-offs.It depends on application requirements. Please refer to Page 13 of the datasheet. This section provides a good explanation of the combination of these 2 settings and trade-offs.
