xtr117: Using two xtr117 ICs

Part Number: XTR117
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: XTR117, XTR111

Support Path: /Reference designs/Technical support help for a specific technical issue with a reference design/

I am using the XTR117 current loop transmitter in my design. I have powered the input circuit from the Vreg pin of the IC with Iret as the return path, as instructed in the datasheet. But I need to drive another XTR117 from this same input circuit (being powered by the first XTR as previously described). If I connect the Iret pins of the two XTR117 ICs together and drive both the ICs from the same input circuit, will it work fine?

  • Hi Ahsan,

You cannot short the IRET pins of the two XTRs together because they wont be able to float up and down independently as needed. If you want to do this, you will either need to isolate the inputs or use 3-wire transmitters such as the XTR111.
