Hi team,
The customer is using OPA548. Can the exposed pad for OPA548 be connected to GND?
Hi Mickey,
The metal tab of the OPA548 TO-220 and DDPAK packages is internally connected to V-. Therefore, the tab must be connected to the same potential as V-, or it must be insulated from any other potential to prevent an electrical connection, i.e. use a mica insulator, or non-conductive thermal pad, and insulating hardware. If the OPA548 application circuit uses a single positive supply and GND, and V- is connected GND, then that satisfies the electrical connection requirments. If a dual supply V+ and V- is being used, then the tab must be connected to V-, or insulated from GND.
For more information see section 11.1.2, Amplifier Mounting, in the OPA548 datasheet.
Regards, Thomas
