Analog linearization of RTD formula

Hello all,

A professor ask,

" I would like to know and understand the computation of RTD Voltage (H3 to H13 cells of RTD_Linearization_v7.xls given in the zip). The formula uses only Vref, RTD and R1 R2 R3 R4 R5 and I have to admit I do not understand the formula ?

Could anyone please help me with this please?

Thank you in advance.

  • Hello Kaustubh,

I am not sure that I fully understand the professor's question. The best way to answer this may be to provide the various steps made with equations entered into Mathcad to solve problem. I've attached a Powerpoint file with the actual Mathcad steps with brief annotations explaining the steps. I hope this answers his/her questions.

Be aware that I am now retired, no longer working for TI. I am providing this information from my personal files and I no longer have access to Mathcad.

  • Dear Bruce thank you for your time. I cannot use Mathcad but the excel file works well ans Spice instead of iterative computation gives also the correct value for R5. For Vout I have found the same values but computing first VRTD and then Vout . Best regards Richard
  • Richard,

I also validated the solutions with SPICE and am quite confident of the results. Be aware that the Powerpoint file I attached in the previous message does not require you to use Mathcad. It shows various equations that you may find useful, including the one used in the Excel spreadsheet that calculates Vrtd.
