LMH6682: Short circuit current

Hello,

Our customer use the LMH6682, have a question about short circuit.

It is mentioned "Output short circuit duration is infinite for VS<6V at room temperature and below" on the datasheet.

Is that condition both output channel at a time? or only one output at a time?

    I have an additional question.
    The customer use the LMH6682, with VS=5.5V.
    Is it possible to short to vs and GND?

    Does "VS<6V" means that it is possible to be sinking from 3V and source to 3V?

    To answer your first question, the datasheet does not explicitly state both the channels for output short circuit spec. So, I think this specification is for only one output at a time.

    Yes, it is possible to short to Vs and GND, and for "Vs <6V" it means the output will source or sink from 3V to either GND or Vs.

    The customer connect the output of the LMH6682 to Vs and GND.
    It means the VCE voltage of the output transistor is 5.5V. It is more than 3V.
    Is it possible to connect (short) the output and Vs or GND infinite time?

  • Hi Noaki,

    Apparently, the LMH6682 has output short-circuit protection that works for Vs < 6V. So, it is possible that you can connect (short) the LMH6682 output to Vs or GND for infinite time.

    However, I would still recommend to include current limit circuitry that ensures the device does not go beyond Tj(max) of 150'C, in-order to ensure the package does not melt.
