LM5056A: About VAUX and SMBus

Part Number: LM5056A

Hello,

Regarding to the LM5056, my customer is asking some question.

(Question)

(1) For example , when LM5056 is power off(Vdd=0) and Vin(Vin_K,SENSE,OUT) =60V ,

is there any problem on LM5056?

From ABSOLUTE MAXIMUM RATINGS, I think that there will be no problem.

My understanding is correct?

(2) What purpose is VAUX used for?

Is it possible to make unused? If so, how does it connect as unused pin?

(3) About SMBus,

They will use MCU with I2C for SMBus.

In this case, is it possible to unused SMBA pin?

If so, is SMBA pin opened?

Regards,

Tao2199

  • Hey Tao2199,

Below are my responses to your questions.

    1. Connecting 60V to VIN while having Vdd=0 will not damage the device, however, it is important to note that the device state while doing this is unpredictable.

    2. I am reaching out to the team that can help you with VAUX information and will get back to you as soon as I hear more.

    3. The SMBA pin is an Alert pin for the SMBus, so if your system does not need to be alerted then you could leave the pin open.

The Vaux pin is just another input to the ADC so external voltages can be monitored. If not used it should be grounded.
