DRV401: External driver

Part Number: DRV401
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: OPA552, DRV411

Dear Technical Support Team,

Do you have an example for external compensation coil driver?

I'd like to know what type of external amp should I select and example schematic, what point I should take care of.

■Summary of requirement.

・large and small compensation coil (1000 turn / 18Ω)

・Shunt register is 10Ω

・primary current is applied 50A , then Icomp pin flows 50mA between 10 pin and 11 pin  is expected, so buffer output current  should be 50mA.

・External Driver is supplied ±15V power.

→I think high current output amp is better like OPA552.

Best Regards,

ttd

  • Hello ttd,

You may want to use the same output circuit as that in our TIPD184.  The TIPD184 is designed for the DRV411 but it is similar and it drive the compensation coil as well.

The transistors provide the current needed while the magnetics provide the feedback to the system.  This TIPD184 output drive may be cheaper as well and more flexible as you can change the output transistors.
