Hi

We are referring TIDA-01187 (LIDAR-pulsed Time-of-Flight Reference Design Using High-Speed Data Converter.)

In the schematic, we can see the following.

Question, 

What is the purpose of "T2"?

Could you please explain?

    Hi,

    The T2 in the schematic is a balun or transformer(xformer). The purpose of T2 is to convert the differential signal on its secondary side of the xformer to a single-ended signal on the primary side while providing a matched impedance conversion in the frequency of interest. The ADT2-1T+ has an impedance turns ratio of 1:2 for Zo = 50-ohms, thus providing a 100-ohm impedance on the secondary side and 50-ohms connection on the primary side.
