OPA211: I need the information to build the footprint and the model for Altium Designer

Part Number: OPA211

I have to revise a design from 2011. There is the SMD housinf named "DRG (S-PDSO-N8) DFN-8". I do not know if the name of the housing has changed since 2011 or if there is an error in my data base.

I have attached the old footprint.

Where can I find the new footprint and model, or at least the information how to buld it.

Thank you

Bahne

  • Hello Bahne,

Take a look at the following TI CAD/EDA web page. Enter the OPA211 model number.

Let us know if this takes care of what you need.

  • Dear Thomas,

Thank you for your info. I was able to export the OPA211_DRG_8.bxl for Altium, but this project only contains two *.pas files.

For this package, there is no *.stp and no *.pdf file available.

Generally I have another problem with this package:

In 2011 we ordered this device with the following description:

S-PDSO-N8, OPA211, Low Power Precision OpAmp in DFN8, TI, OPA211IDRGT

I got crazy trying to find the S-PDSO-N8 package. I only found:

    Mouser - Verpackung/Gehäuse:                            WSON-8

Im Ti Datenblatt                                                              SON(8) und DRG (S-PWSON-N8)

At least the name of the package has changed since 2011.

I hope you can give me some more information. when I have the dimensions and recommendations,

I am able to build the footprint and the model by myself.

    With best regards

    Bahne

  • Hello Bahne,

Possibly, some changes were made to the OPA211 package information when the datasheet was revised in June 2016.

You mention, "In 2011 we ordered this device with the following description:

S-PDSO-N8, OPA211, Low Power Precision OpAmp in DFN8, TI, OPA211IDRGT"

When I review the current package options in the datasheet mechanical drawing section, the package that comes closest to your 2011 description is the DRG (S-PWSON-N8). The package type is the SON, which is an 8-contact, leadless package. The OPA211IDRGT lists this Package Type and Package Drawing in the table provided on the datasheet Addendum-Page 1.

If this is the correct package, then the 44th page (not numbered, and second to the last page) in the datsheet provides the Land Pattern Data for the DRG (S-PWSON-N8).

Let me know if this is what you need.

  • Dear Thomas,

Thank you for your helpful information. As I understand, you can confirm, that in 2011 the package for the OPA211 was DRG (S-PWSON-N8)

and now the name of the package for the same device is DRG (S-PWSON-N8).

With this information, I can check if my footprint will match the information in "opa211.pdf" revised in June 2016.

If this is correct, I should have all necessary information.

Thank you very much for your help

    Bahne

  • Bahne,

I have spent some time with the program managers to trace the history of the two package line items being discussed, and have some additional information for you.

I believe there may be a minor error in your database, as the original DRG (S-PDSO-N8) designator you have is actually a combination of two different package types.

The correct package designator for the OPA211's DRG package is as follows: DRG (S-PWSON-N8). DRG refers to TI's internal package designator for a 3x3 DFN-8, while S-PWSON-N8 is the Jedec designator for the same package.

The DRG land pattern, which is correct for the OPA211IDRGR and the OPA211IDRGT, can be viewed here:

    http://www.ti.com/lit/ml/mpds151b/mpds151b.pdf

The CAD file for the DRG package can be downloaded here in .bxl format:

    webench.ti.com/.../OPA211_DRG_8.bxl

There is also a DRM package, which is a 4x4 DFN-8, whose full designator is as follows: DRM (S-PDSO-N8).

The DRM land pattern can be viewed here:

    www.ti.com/.../lppd071.pdf

So to reiterate, the DRG (S-PWSON-N8) is the complete, correct package for the OPA211, and has not changed since 2011. We have never offered the OPA211 in the DRM package.

Please let me know if you have any other questions related to the OPA211 in DRG package or if you need any additional information.
