AFE031: AFE for simultaneous three phase PLC

Part Number: AFE031

1. How can we use AFE for simultaneous  three phase PLC communication?

2. How can we use AFE without coupling transformer?

3. How can we amplify the output power of the AFE?

Regards,

  • Hello Abdurhaman Issa88,

    1. How can we use AFE for simultaneous three phase PLC communication?
    - Would you be able to elaborate on the 3 phase system you are trying to communicate on?

    2. How can we use AFE without coupling transformer?
    - It is possible to AC couple to a line a capacitor depending on the voltage levels of the system. What is the voltage of the AC/DC lines you are
    wanting to couple to?

    3. How can we amplify the output power of the AFE?
    - The Power Op Amp used to drive the power line is set at an internal fix gain of 6.5V/V. It is possible to change the gain of the Tx PGA, however, the
gain values you can select are 0.25V/V, 0.5V/V, 0.707V/V, 1V/V.

  • Dear Errol Leon,

    Thank you for your support!

Would you be able to elaborate on the 3 phase system you are trying to communicate on?

-> It is for smart grid application. We want this AFE031 for the data concentrator PLC (power line communication) module. We have TI data concentrator kit, but they used jumper to switch from one phase to the other. So in this case it is difficult to use the three phase simultaneously.

It is possible to AC couple to a line a capacitor depending on the voltage levels of the system. What is the voltage of the AC/DC lines you are wanting to couple to?

-> I think i answered it with the first question. It is for smart meter power line communication application. Both for single and three phase smart electric meter. The PLC module is the same as the TI reference design.

The Power Op Amp used to drive the power line is set at an internal fix gain of 6.5V/V. It is possible to change the gain of the Tx PGA, however, the

gain values you can select are 0.25V/V, 0.5V/V, 0.707V/V, 1V/V.

-> we know that. It is clearly mentioned in the datasheet. What we want is that, to add additional power amplifier circuit which amplifie three times the maximum output of AFE031 PA.

  • Hello Abdurhaman,

    Thank you for your patience.

    1. You could possibly transmit simultaneously on 3 phases with 3 AFE031 devices.

    2. Since this is being coupled to the AC main it is recommended to have a transformer for Galvanic isolation.

    3. It is possible to cascade another PA to the AFE031's PA.

    Best regards,
