OTDR design

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: THS4541

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am looking for design suggestion for OTDR as per block and spec below:

I have actually look at TIDA-00725 www.ti.com/lit/ug/tiduaz1/tiduaz1.pdf but I am not sure if it can cover the required wavelength of 850 nm to 1550nm.

For ADC, the attenuation need to be following:

If you have specific TI part no which is suitable for any of the block shown, please recommend to me. Many thx

Best regards,
kpk

  • Hi Poh,

OTDRs produce pulses of light, and calculate the distance to a reflection point from the time it takes for the pulse to reflect back. The wavelength requirement for the amplifier is 2x the distance to the fault. There is no need to count the individual waves of light. The THS4541 should be sufficient for most applications of this sort.

    Best regards,
