TLV2464: Differential to Single Ended Signal Conversion

Hello - I have an application where I am receiving line frequency signals (i.e. 50 and 60Hz) from a differential device.  I need to convert these differential signals to single ended signals for further processing.  I am looking for a low cost solution for this low frequency application and the TLV2464 appears to have the proper output voltage range and Vicr.  Is this device appropriate for such an application?  If not, would a different device be better suited?  Thanks very much.

    Depending on the input signal, you may want to consider the TLV4170. It is a newer, cost-optimized device. The input common-mode range is specified to (V+)-2V, though it does operate between (V+)-2V to (V+)+0.1V with reduced performance (please see Table 2 in the data sheet).

    I assume you're interested in building a discrete instrumentation amplifier to convert the differential signal to a single-ended signal. Another option may be a difference amplifier, depending on your situation.

    Finally, if you build a discrete instrumentation amplifier please be aware of the Vcm vs. Vout limitations of such a configuration. In short, just because the amplifiers have particular Vcm and Vout ranges (e.g. RRI/O) the overall topology will not have the same ranges.   • Hi Pete - thanks for the response.  The application in question has low performance requirements as I simply to convert an isolated 50/60Hz AC line voltage signal from the differential output of the isolator to a single ended signal required by the downstream circuitry.  The TLV2464 seems to fit the bill as its Vicr is from 0 to Vdd and it has rail to rail outputs.  Is there a reason you feel that this device would not be appropriate for the application I have described?  Thanks.

    No problem!

    There's no reason that I can think of why the TLV2464 would not work when connected as an instrumentation amplifier. I suggested the TLV4170 as an alternate due to price and it's on a newer process.

    Perhaps another device to check out is the TLV6004. It is another cost-optimized device on a newer process but is RRI/O.
