THS7316: Looking for a VGA Splitter

Part Number: THS7316
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: THS7303, THS7372, THS7373

Hi there,

My customer is looking for a VGA splitter (1:2) with the following spec:

  • Input signal: RGB
  • Resolution: 1920*1080 @ 60Hz

Is THS7316 suitable for this application? What would you suggest?

Thanks!

Best regards,

Roy Hsu

  • Hi Roy,

I would not recommend the THS7316 for 1920x1080@60Hz video resolution. The appropriate part to use is the THS7372 or the THS7303 in bypass mode which will support 1920x1080@60Hz video resolution and RGB inputs.

    Best Regards,
    Rohit
  • Hi Rohit,

I think THS7373 should also fit for this application, right?

What are the differences among the parts in the THS737x family?

    Thanks!

    Best regards,

    Roy Hsu

  • Hi Rohit,

I'd also want to confirm with you about the use case below.

The HD CHx OUT pins are going to be connected to two VGA outputs; a VGA output port and a capture card input.

Would there be any loading effect associated with this configuration? Or does everything look alright?

    Thanks!

    Best regards,

    Roy Hsu

  • Hi Roy,

Yes, I believe the THS7373 HD channels in bypass mode should also fit the 1080p60 application. However, I think the THS7372 would be a better fit for the 1080p60 application because it already incorporates the 6th order low pass filter, which otherwise would need to be implemented externally for the THS7373 in bypass mode. The THS7372 can also drive two video lines in one single channel.

The THS737x family has different variants that support either 3-channel SD/ED/HD/Full-HD standards and not all at the same time. Also, some of the devices have different gains (15-dB) compared to the typical 6-dB required for a video amplifier.

The use case above of driving two VGA outputs should not be an issue with the THS7372 or the THS7373.

    Best Regards,
    Rohit
