AMC1301: Safety certification

Hi Team,

My customer is considering to use AMC1301 to replace ACPL-C790 and he has a question regarding safety certification.

ACPL-C790 pass the certification of EN 60747-5-5, AMC1301 pass VDE V 0884-10. What is the difference between these two certifications?

Does AMC1301 need to pass EN 60747-5-5 to help his product pass UL certification?

Hi Vincent,

The EN 60747-5-5 standard is specific to opto couplers, while the VDE 0884-10 is specific to digital couplers like the AMC1301. Both standards define the rigorous testing process of isolators. Both standards are component level and there is no reason to assume an opto based device needs to pass the VDE standard or that a digital coupler would need to pass the EN standard.
