INA195: Supply Ground isolation with INA19x Ground

Part Number: INA195

Hi,

I am using a 48V power supply (Isolated from Load Ground). I am measuring my supply current at the input with INA195. Can I isolate the Supply ground and INA195 Ground or do they have to be common?

Thanks and Regards

Vishal Kakade

  • Hi Vishal,

I don't exactly understand what you mean, but the input bias currents of INA195 must find a current path back to the GND of INA195.

  • Hello Vishal,

Thanks for considering to use Texas Instruments in your design. You may be able to do that, but we would like to see your schematic and know exactly what conditions you are imposing on the device before we tell you to proceed. Its possible that your implementation may violate specifications and present possible weaknesses in yourdesign.
  • Hello Sir,

I am measuring the current at the input of my DC-DC converter. I am using an isolated DC-DC and hence supply ground and INA195 grounds are different.

So If my supply ground is not connected to INA195's ground, will it work?

  • Hi Vishal,

if there's no connection at all between the both grounds, then it will not work.
