INA381: INA381 for over current protection

Dear Expert,

I am looking for over current protection solution with lower cost in 12Vbus application, and the maximum current is 5A.

My idea is use INA381 and MOSFET to implement OCP.

Did we have app note can let me study it? Thanks!

    Hello Ben ,

    Thanks for reaching out on the forum. We currently do not have an app note out for this yet. However, I can outline some of the steps you need to take.

    1. First calculate your shunt.

    2. Calculate your INA381 output at the overcurrent threshold.  Set your CMPREF to this value.

    3. Assuming your MOSFET turns off a portion of the system, solve for RHyst. Otherwise you need to implement a delay circuit like shown below for transparent mode or consider using a microntroller to reset the device when operating in latch mode.
