INA826: THD performances

Expert 5080 points

Part Number: INA826
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: INA821, INA828, OPA2227

Dear e2e Community,

We don't see any data about the THD of our INA826.

Could you share some?

Regards,

  • Hi,

We generally only provide THD measurements for devices intended for audio applications. While you can certainly still use the INA826, it is not part of the audio portfolio. We do have devices that are designed for audio if you'd like to take a look at those first. If you can share any information about what is needed for the application then we can make sure you have the right device.
  • Hi Zak,

I will let the customer comment directly on his specific needs.
But in the meantime, I was wondering if we could just get data such as the figure 37 of the INA821 for example. Do we have it somewhere?

    Regards,
  • Hi Zak,

Thank you for your answer. I was wondering why you are saying that the THD information is only available for audio-related products, whereas you can find that information for general-purpose components, like the OPA2227 or INA828 (which looks quite similar in functionnality to the INA826, even though the performance is better).

    Regards,
    Jean
  • Hi Jean,

the OPA2227 is not a general purpose component. It's true that it can be used for general purpose. But when you read its datasheet you will notice that it's recommended for "professional audio equipment".

The INA821 and INA828 are different compared to the INA826. The INA826's supply current is much smaller. The open loop output impedance is 100 (!) times higher. The noise is higher and many parameters like the "gain non-linearity" is specified for a 10k load only but not for a 2k load. All this makes me think, that the INA826 is an instrumentation amplifier being optimized for a low supply current, but not for a typical audio application where usually much heavier loads must be driven. The INA821 and INA828, on the other hand, appear to be much better suited for audio applications.

So, to me it absolutely makes sense that the INA821 and INA828 contain specifications about THD, but not the INA826.
