TINA/Spice/TLV3201: TINA Spice model shows output inverting with large signal

Part Number: TLV3201
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TINA-TI,

Tool/software: TINA-TI or Spice Models

Hi Support team

Have a customer playing with the TLV3201 in TINA and he is seeing the output invert when an input signal goes 230mV above the rail. Is this expected behavior, or is the model wrong?

I can send the tina file via email

  • Also, it appears we are not simulating the esd diodes. Is this correct>
  • Hi Jeff,

the common mode input voltage range is specified in the datasheet. It says that you may exceed the supply rails by up to 200mV. So, it seems to be plausible that phase reversion can occur at higher input voltages.

I confirmed on my own TINA file that we are not modeling the ESD diodes in the TLV3201 model. However, I will need to go on the bench in order to confirm if the device will suffer from phase inversion if driven beyond the warranted common mode range in the datasheet. Regardless, all the warranted specs in the EC table are invalid once the device is driven 200mV past either rail.

It appears that the TLV3201 TINA model does not mirror the device performance. My bench measurements support the datasheet claim of no phase reversal when the positive or negative voltage rails are exceeded at the inputs. The ESD protection diodes will still start limiting as the inputs exceed the supply voltages by more than 400mV, but I do not see phase inversion. I will make a request for the model to be revised to better reflect the operation of the device.

  • HI Chuck, that is what I thought, thanks for getting the model fixed, Jeff
