INA220: How to calculate INA220 actual Conversion Time?

Part Number: INA220

Hii,

We are using INA220 for current, voltage and power monitoring.

in datasheet section  8.3.1  and 8.3.1.1, I have some questions.

1. SADC and BADC do conversion at different time? If yes which ADC is uses to first convert?

2. It mention that Actual conversion time is different than ADC conversion time mentioned in electrical characteristics , How to calculate it?

Thank You

  • Hello Vikas,

Thanks for your interest in our INA220.

    1. Yes the Shunt ADC and Bus ADC have different conversion times.  The shunt ADC will convert first.

    2.  If you want the power conversion, then the total conversion time will be (SADC conversion time + BADC conversion time).  If you want to average the samples, the device will default to the 12 bit ADC resolution.  The table below shows what the conversion would be for the SADC or BADC individually.  For example you set the SADC and BADC bits to 1000 in the configuration register, your total conversion time would be 532us+532us= 1.064ms.
