LM193: LM193JG package max operating temperature

Is the LM193JG package (CDIP) max operating temperature is limted to 125C? As ceramic package can withstand higher temepratures (>175C) why the datasheet limits max operature temperature same as a plastic SOIC package.

Is the die design limiting this temperature not the package material?

    Both the ceramic package and die will physically survive temperatures much higher than 175°C, but they will not survive electrically and operationally.

    All semiconductors are affected by temperature. The designers have to balance maintaining desired specifications within the desired temperature range.

    When operated outside the specified temperature range, the behavior can vary beyond the specifications. Higher temperatures also can shorten operational lifetime. This is why we specify a maximum operating junction temperature. After tj-Max, damage can occur.

    The "Operating Range" is the temperature range we warranty that the device will operate within the specified datasheet parameters. The device may still function beyond the operational temp range (and most do), but specs like offset, bias current, common mode range, BW, prop delay and output drive start to diminish to the point of failure.

    So it is the electrical performance of the die is the limiting factor, not the packages.
