INA226: INA226 vs INA240

Part Number: INA226
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: INA240

I need something similar INA226, which I used in the past but with analog output instead of I2C for current sense on high side of 48V input.

I found INA240, which I think should work.

I also need a differential analog output from the current sense, with output rating 0 to 5V,  so is there device that has that builtin?

if not, I  need to convert with op amp externally.

Thanks,

Khoi

  • Hello Khoi,

Thanks for considering to use Texas Instruments.  If you are looking to have the current shunt monitor produce a differential signal with respect to a reference voltage you can use the configuration shown in the figure below.  With a 5V supply the output will at worst be able to swing from 10mV to 4.8V.

If you are looking for a analog output device that provides a current measurement, vbus measurement, and power  measurement through an analog output, we do not have one.  All of our power monitoring devices utilize an I2C interface for the output.

  • I am aware that analog output is only used for shunt current meamsurement.

I am measuring max. 20A load at 48V.

    Thanks for the diagram.

  • Hello Khoi,

I had to make sure that was the case as another customer just recently requested for a power measurement device with an analog output.

Based off the details I have, the INA240 does appear to be the best analog output replacement for the INA226. Let me know if you have any further questions.
