INA233: Asking for the INA233 current sensing limit

Part Number: INA233

Hi team,
Customer uses INA233 for the 5V current monitoring and need INA233 to send message to host once the current reach 500mA.

How could customer use the table 4 CODE 4AH for this case?

here is customer schematic link

  • Hello SHH,

Thanks for reaching out on the forum. I do not see a shunt in the above schematic. Therefore I presume your customer is using a copper trace as a shunt. I would warn them that there could be a large tolerance on this trace depending on how good their board manufacture is, the size of the trace, and how much copper from adjacent pours or traces are surrounding the trace. The other issue they may encounter if the operating temperature around that trace changes greatly will be drift.

As for how to use command 4Ah, your customer will write the value "Y" they determined from section 7.5.4 of the datasheet based on the current_LSB which is determined by the CAL value they program into the register accessed by code D4h. These codes will be sent in Frame 2 of PMBus write transmission.
