AMC1200-Q1: why the recommendation max ambient temperature is only 105 degree C?

Part Number: AMC1200-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AMC1200, , AMC1301-Q1, AMC1311-Q1

Hi

in AMC1200 datasheet, the absolute max ratings, max Junction temperature Tj is 150 degree C.

but in recommended operating conditions, max operating ambient temperature is only 105 degree C, why this data is not 125 degree C?

this device is a low power device, check the datasheet as below, the max power loss is 44+38.5=82.5mW

Ploss*RJA=82.5mW*102.8 degreeC/W=8.48 degree

TJ=105+8.48=113.48 degreeC,  which is much lower than 150 degreeC

if choose max operating ambient temperature 125 degree C.

TJ=125+8.48=133.48 degreeC,  which is also lower than 150 degreeC, it still can meet max Junction temperature limitation.

now, customer want to know, what's limit max operating ambient temperature of AMC1200-Q1? can AMC1200-Q1 working in 125 degreeC ambient temperature?

thanks.

  • Hi Max,

As stated in the AMC1200-Q1 datasheet:

AEC-Q100 Qualified With the Following Results:
    – Temperature Grade 2: –40°C to 105°C

The max temperature range is not greater than 105°C because it has not been qualified for a temperature greater than 105°C. Above 105°C, we cannot guarantee the performance of the device. If the customer needs a device that can handle 125°C, I recommend that they look at the AMC1301-Q1 for current sensing or the AMC1311-Q1 for voltage sensing.
