TINA/Spice/LM331: Model file required for simulating in TINA

Part Number: LM331
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TINA-TI,

Tool/software: TINA-TI or Spice Models

Not only the mentioned device, but none of the voltage to frequency converters have SPICE Model file for use. Why? Many replies I could see was, old device: but currently active I hope.

Hence kindly help out with the model file. Our design Research is paused due to this model file unavailability.

  • Hi Nikilla,

At present we don't have SPICE macromodels for the frequency-to-voltage devices, and I'm unable to give a timeline on when we might have such a model available. Modelling a frequency-in, voltage-out system in a way that converges reliably and quickly across a variety of simulators, all while giving meaningful simulation results regarding accuracy, stability, etc, presents a considerable challenge.

  • Hi Nikilla,

I agree with Alexander. The LM331 is a highly sophisticated chip and it would cost enormeous time and efforts to fabricate a precise model. Every simplification would result in a model which would not be accurate enough to give proper simulation results. At the end such a simplified model would be worthless.

But why is the model so important for you? When I started with electronics many decades ago we had no models at all and were nevertheless able to fabricate proper circuits. Anyway, I think the benefit of a simulation is often heavily overestimated. One measurement tells more than 100 simulations...
