LMV951: Shutdown pin

Part Number: LMV951
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TINA-TI,

What is the default state of the showdown pin? The datasheet is essentially silent, talking only about how to wire it to switch from enabled to disabled. What happens if it is left open. I ask because I'm substituting it for another part that has no pad at the shutdown pin. I can scrape off the resist and solder the pin to the ground plane but would just as soon avoid doing that.

The data sheet, which has several examples, has no example with guidance on the optimum gain resistors. Changing the values in Tina-TI shows some very strange performance for noise.

Thanks,

Dave

  • Hi Dave,

You cannot leave the shutdown pin floating. There is not a pull-up/pull-down resistor inside the LMV951 to enable/disable the device if the shutdown pin is left floating.

The gain setting resistors should be large enough such that you do not limit the output swing limitations of the device (the gain setting resistors appear as a load on the output of the op amp) but small enough to not introduce too much noise for your system or create a stability problem. Something on the order of a few kilo ohms should work well.

    Thank you,
