ISO124: Can be used single power?

Part Number: ISO124
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ISO224

Hi TI team,

I want to use a single power supply(12V) for both the input and output VCC of ISO124.

In the TI single-supply Guide document, the output VCC uses a positive and negative power supply.

Please let me know if there is no problem using a single power supply.

Thanks,

Downey.

  • Hi Downey,

Unfortunately you can't use the ISO124 with a single supply on the output, it needs at least +/-4.5V on both sides of the device.  The ISO224 is a newer isolation amplifier that can work from unipolar supplies and allows for up to +/-12V input range, so that might be an alternative option for you.

  • Hi Tom,

Thanks your answer. my customer need output level max 10V. Since the output of ISO224 is max 4V, it is unlikely to be available.

I would suggest to the customer that use the Iso224 and later use the opamp to amplify.

Let me know if there is a better way.

    Thanks.

  • Hi Downey,

The ISO224 has a differential output while the ISO124 is single ended.  Also, the gain of the ISO224 is 1/3 while the gain of the ISO124 is 1.  The EVM for the ISO224 has an example circuit on the board that takes the differential output and gains it back up so that the full scale bi-polar input can be reproduced on the output.
