INA226: INA226 sense higher than 36V without adding Op amp and FETs

Part Number: INA226
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: OPA333, ISO1541, INA220

Hello, I also want to use INA226 to sense voltage higher than 36V (max 58V ). Is there any easier way to do that instead of adding OPA333 and fets?

we don't need a very precise current read so maybe just an equal voltage divider on Vin+ and Vin-?

We changed the voltage of the system to 48V when it was 30V before and we missed that part....the gerbers are almost out so I need the simplest/fastest solution.  I added a voltage divider on Vbus but forget about Vin+ and Vin-.

Any suggestion to help?

Thanks

  • Hello David,

Thanks for considering to use Texas Instruments.  I see that you have found one of our TI designs.   As for alternatives, the resistor divider would be the simplest, but could lead to larger errors than you might like (I discuss an example here in this thread using the INA220 if you are interested).  Alternatively we do have one power monitor that can handle that range (LM5056).  However, that does come in a larger package and communicates with PMBUS.  One last alternative would be to float the INA226 ground  with a zener diode and have the I2C logic feed through a isolation device like the ISO1541. An example of that method can be found here.
