INA181: Low side bidirectional current sensing with 64V battery

Part Number: INA181

Hi,

Need to measure both discharging current and charging current from/through battery.

i.e. it will be used as bidirectional low side sensing.

Can I use this with 64V Battery ? Is it OK since it low side sensing ?

Datasheet says  max 26V battery. Is this applicable only for high side sensing ?

Thanks in advance for  support.

Planned configuration is attached.

Regards,

Anil

  • Anil,

When you measure the low side you will only seeing the voltage close to GND and will not apply a high voltage at the inputs of the INA181.  Therefore this should not be an issue.

The one thing you will need to concern yourself with is does the input ever go below the GND pin of the INA181.  If so the voltage of the inputs to the INA181 can only go 0.2V below GND pin voltage of the INA181.  The reason I mention the INA181 GND pin is that is the voltage referenced and this voltage can vary depending on your layout and your loads.

This device is capable of low side with the above concerns understood.

  • Thanks Javier.

    Will go ahead with INA181.

    Regards,

    Anil
