In-Line or Low-Side current sense monitor

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: INA240, INA4181, INA2181

An application require me to sense current form several instructors to regulate current inside this coils. In this application I'll drive this coil with 30Khz Freq and a variable Duty cycle, voltages on coils goes up to 50V and H-bridge is applied. A bi-directional current amplifier is required.

Several coils create me a price constrain and also, most possible circuitry simplification.

An ideal should be a current sense amplifier with digital output, but prices are too high for a single channel. Otherwise an In-Line application with dedicated ADC will low price.

I've found INA240 but looking for something cheaper or multichannel.

My first question is:

INA240 is suitable at this drive frequencies?

Alternatives to INA240 that I may consider?

  • Hi,

The INA240 will be suitable at this frequency. You will need to evaluate if it can settle fast enough if duty cycle can go to extremes.

We currently don’t have an inline current sense amplifier (CSA) equivalent that is cheaper.

If you use low side configuration, there are more selections and some will be cheaper. Among these are multi channel devices, such as INA2181 and INA4181.
Either way you’d most likely need to choose analog CSA plus separate ADC.
