How to solder the OPT101P-J in the J-formed DIP /SOP (DTL)/ case since these legs are curved up? It is impossible to solder through the hole but in the case of surface mounting the curved up legs looks like antenna for noise pickup. I'm confused.

Hi Alex,
Should you be interested, a through hole version of the OPT101 is available...the orderable part number is OPT101PG4. For the OPT101P-J, the reverse J formed leads provide a surface mount option. The leads are the exact length as the PDIP and are just mechanically formed to allow for surface mount soldering and do not increase an anntenna effect. With the clear plastic package care must be taken when soldering either version to ensure the devices are dry prior to soldering...it is therefore recommeded to bake the devices prior to soldering...shown here is the guidance from the product specification.
